Next ITS Colloquium Focuses on Islamic Feminism
International workshop “Islamic Feminism: Exploring Boundaries and Embracing Possibilities” explores Islamic feminism as one of the most discussed intellectual movements in the Islamic world and will be held at the Goethe-University Frankfurt, November 22–23, 2024.
The workshop “Islamic Feminism: Exploring Boundaries and Embracing Possibilities” is organized by Dr. Mansooreh Khalilizand, University of Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Kata Moser, University of Gottingen, and Prof. Dr. Abbas Poya, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. The workshop explores Islamic feminism as one of the most discussed intellectual movements in the Islamic world, examining its diversity and reflecting on its boundaries and theoretical potential for further development.
Key topics include the defining features of Islamic feminism, the extent to which it moves beyond Qur’anic hermeneutics, the possibilities for dialogue between Islamic feminism and other feminist movements in both the Global South and North, and the theoretical approaches within Islamic feminism that offer promising insights for Islamic theology.
The workshop is open to students of Islamic theology, Islamic studies, Islamic philosophy, and gender studies, as well as to scholars in related fields. Members of the university community with an interest in the subject are also welcome to attend.
