Lecture Invitation

No interest, no speculation, no investment in sectors such as gambling or weapons – these are just a few of the criteria that should characterise financial and investment products compliant with Islamic ethics. The AIWG invites you to two presentations by AIWG-Fellow Say Cheong Lim on the topic of Islamic Finance in October at Goethe University in Frankfurt. You can also join the event online.

The first lecture “Islamic Finance Explained: Principles, Products, and How It Works”, will introduce the fundamentals of Islamic finance in a clear, accessible, and practical way: What is Islamic finance? How does it work? Is it relevant only to Muslims, or can it offer something to the wider financial system and society? It will explain the basic principles behind Islamic finance, how Islamic financial products work in practice, and their relevance to consumers, investors, and the wider economy.

In the second lecture, “Islamic Finance in Everyday Life: Banking, Home Finance, Saving, and Investing”, Say Cheong Lim will explore how Islamic finance applies to everyday financial decisions, including: Everyday banking and personal finance, buying and financing a home, saving and building wealth, investing in shares, funds, and other assets and what Islamic financial options are available in Germany today.

The sessions will conclude with an open Q&A, giving in-person participants an opportunity to raise practical questions and discuss current developments in Islamic finance within Germany and globally.

Both sessions will be held in English. No prior knowledge of Islamic finance, banking, or Islam is required. Anyone interested in understanding Islamic, ethical, or alternative approaches to finance is welcome.

Venue:

About Say Cheong Lim

Say Cheong Lim studied at Wharton in the United States and INSEAD in France and is a senior executive with 30 years of proven banking experience encompassing both Islamic and Conventional Banking and spanning both Business and Risk Management, working with start-up and established companies, under both normal and challenging operating environment.
